Emerald City Soul Club says, ‘Game on!’
By: Osiris Indriya
Starting in May, CHAC Lower Level is
filling out its late night Saturday offerings with some exciting new nights. Every fourth Saturday will remind us of the good old days when jukeboxes were the DJ and the radio was still the source for new sounds. Starting May 26th,
Emerald City Soul Club (ECSC) proudly presents their newest monthly dance night
Hip to the Game.
ECSC has built its reputation on turning the spotlight back toward the forgotten groove makers of decades past. These audiophiles dig deep into the crates to bring their fast growing audience the legends of Rare and Northern Soul. Founded in 2006 by
Kevin Jones and
Marc Muller, ECSC was constructed to
fill a missing niche in Seattle’s dance scene, specializing in 60’s and 70’s Rare Soul played exclusively on original 45rpm vinyl. Their
first soul night has managed to gather quite a diverse following of regulars, from record collector nerds to average-joes and janes who know quality music when they hear it... and aren’t afraid to move.
Expanding on the theme, ECSC’s
Hip to the Game will feature Rare Soul from the 70s and beyond, including Modern and Crossover Soul, Boogie, Funky RnB, NuSoul and Deep Funk for your dancing pleasure. Be sure to have a peek at the resident DJ pro
files on the ECSC website for a sampling of what
Hip to the Game has to offer! In the words of their myspace page, “Get Outta the Weather and ‘Shake a Tail Feather!’”
Other Saturday night offerings in the Lower Level include In
finite Connections, Tandav Music and Seattle Foundry’s live Eastern dance night
Shringar (first Saturdays), DJ Coldheart’s classic goth night
Isolation (second Saturdays), and a new monthly by
Flight 2 Mars (third Saturdays). See the calendar and Capitol Hill Arts Center’s website for more information and updates.
