Treasure found at end of Rainbow
At last, the search to reach the end of the rainbow is over! Discover it for yourself on Saturday, March 29 when The Oracle Gatherings present
Rainbow Bridge, their latest edition of a series of evocatively unique multi-media arts events. Founded in 2001, The Oracle Gatherings are dedicated to a unique artistic, sacred, and community mission to create a series of events combining ceremony, theatrical performance, crafts, visual art, dance, and music. The events blend the feel of celebratory festivals with an ethic of safe all-night parties in a kaleidoscopic setting intentionally designed to embody rotating themes. Each theme is symbolized by an original image, added to the Oracle Gatherings Tarot Deck. Rainbow Bridge is the 22nd and penultimate event in this years-long journey of creating the 23-card Deck.
This theme invites us to consider the nature and imagery of Rainbows. Made of airborne water droplets refracting light, it is natural that throughout history they have been ascribed by many different cultures as heavenly messengers or ethereal gateways. For example, ancient Norse mythology viewed the rainbow as the connection between Earth and the realm of the gods. The Judeo/Christian account of Noah depicts the Rainbow as a reminder of God’s commitment to never again purge the earth with flood waters.
Not only do the annals of mythology reflect the importance rainbows, but so too do many modern cultural narratives. In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy longs for home “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”. Eccentric musician Jimi Hendrix, long in tune with the ecstasy of human spirit, created a film and album around this theme. And on a lighter note, the animated feature film, All Dogs Go To Heaven, illustrates the recently popular idea that pets go to their afterlife across a Rainbow Bridge.
For the folks at The Oracle Gatherings,
Rainbow Bridge is a portal to contemplation across a wide “arc” of ideas. Founding member Osiris Indriya describes this theme as, “elusive and impermanant. It will take all of our different perspectives -- the entire spectrum -- to make the Rainbow Bridge sturdy enough to cross.” What will you find at the end of the Rainbow? You have to cross that bridge in the Capitol Hill Arts Center Showroom to find out!
This event boasts the best of the Pacific Northwest’s spiritual underground arts movement featuring live music, DJs, ritual theater, workshops, healing arts, visionary artwork as well as independent clothing and craft vendors. Three rooms of music and art will include artists and musicians from as far away as Orcas Island, Portland and Eugene, Oregon.
